Local movers in Bangkok, and anywhere else in Thailand
No border, no customs file — and none of that is what makes a domestic move go wrong. What does is a lift slot nobody booked, a soi a lorry cannot enter, and a ferry that sails twice a day. Asia Relocation Thailand plans a move around those, then carries it.
A domestic move looks like the easy one. There is no border, no clearance and no vessel, so it gets treated as a van and a couple of hours. Then the lift is out of service, the juristic office wants two days' notice, the truck cannot turn into the soi, and a day that was going to be simple becomes an argument on a pavement.
The work here is scheduling, not logistics. Which lift, at what hour, for how long. Whether the load can be brought to the door or has to be carried. Whether the ferry sails that afternoon. Get those right and the furniture takes care of itself; get them wrong and no amount of packing tape recovers the day.
Asia Relocation Thailand handles these with the same crews that pack international shipments, which is why the standards do not drop because the destination is close. A move to a condominium upstairs and a move to Chiang Mai are the same discipline applied over different distances.
What we carry, and what is a different job
The second column is not small print: most disputes in this trade are about something everyone assumed was in the price.
Carried by the service
- A free on-site survey: the rooms, the lift, the carry, and the volume the whole plan is built on.
- Packing at the level the distance needs — a crosstown run and a provincial road are not packed the same way.
- Dismantling and reassembly of the furniture that will not go through a Thai stairwell in one piece.
- The building side of it: lift booking, loading-bay slot, and the notice the juristic office asks for at both ends.
- Delivery and placement, room by room, with the packing debris taken away rather than left in the corridor.
Every line is written into the quotation, with its limits.
A different service
- Leaving Thailand. Once a border is crossed there is a customs file and an export inventory: see moving abroad from Thailand.
- The car. Moving a vehicle between provinces is vehicle transport, on its own plan.
- The animals. They do not travel on a removals truck: pet relocation.
- An office. Desks, servers and a switch-over weekend are office relocation.
- Cover, and a gap between two leases. Moving insurance is quoted separately, and storage in Thailand holds the load when the dates do not meet.
All of these can run on the same file and the same dates. Say so in the inquiry.
Five domestic moves, and what each one turns on
Same crews, same standards. What changes is the obstacle between the furniture and the truck.
Condominium to condominium
The commonest expatriate move in Bangkok, and the one decided by a building rather than by distance. Two juristic offices, two lift bookings, two loading bays, and often a window that starts after office hours. We handle both ends before we quote a day.
House or townhouse
More volume, easier access, and a longer day. Gardens, storerooms and outdoor furniture are what get forgotten at the survey stage and what turn a full load into an overflowing one.
Bangkok to the provinces
Chiang Mai, Hua Hin, Pattaya. Several hundred kilometres of road means everything is boxed and corner-protected rather than blanket-wrapped, and in the rainy season the load travels sheeted. The distance changes the packing, not the paperwork.
Crossing to an island
Phuket and Koh Samui add a ferry, and the ferry plans the move rather than the other way round. Limited sailings and weather mean the loading day works backwards from the crossing, with reinforced packing for the handling at both ramps.
A partial move
A few rooms, a second home, or the half of a household that goes ahead while the rest waits for a lease to start. Priced on what actually moves, not on a truck that leaves half empty.
From the survey to the furniture back in place
-
A free survey, on site
We measure the volume and look at what surrounds it: the lift, the stairwell, the carry to the truck, the width of the soi. That is what sets the crew and the vehicle, and it is why a figure given over the phone is a guess.
-
The building, before the date
The juristic office at each end is asked for its rules and its slot. Notice periods, permitted hours and the service lift are settled while the date can still move.
-
Packing to the distance
Crosstown, provincial or ferry: three different standards. Everything is labelled by destination room, which is what makes the far end quick rather than a second sorting exercise.
-
The run itself
Our own crew and our own truck, loaded to be unloaded in the right order. On a long provincial leg the coordinator tells you where the load is instead of leaving you to wonder.
-
Placement, and the debris
Furniture reassembled and put where you want it, floors and doorframes protected, cartons and wrapping taken away the same day rather than left stacked in the hall.
Expatriate households, at four different moments
The lease that ends before the posting does
A new condominium in the same district, sometimes the same street. The move is short and the buildings are the whole difficulty — two sets of rules, two lifts, one day.
Assignees moved within the country
Bangkok to Chiang Mai, or down to the eastern seaboard, because the plant or the office is there. A company file, a provincial road, and a family that has to be functional on Monday.
Long-stay residents heading for the coast
Retirees and remote workers leaving the capital for Hua Hin, Phuket or Samui. Often the largest volume we move domestically, and the one where the ferry decides the calendar.
Families in transit between two homes
The lease has ended and the next one has not started. The load is moved once, held, and delivered when the keys exist, rather than moved twice by two different companies.
Six cities, the roads between them, and two ferries
Crews in Bangkok, Chiang Mai, Phuket, Pattaya, Hua Hin and Koh Samui, and deliveries anywhere in between.
Most domestic moves we handle start in Bangkok, because most expatriate leases do. The routes that repeat are the road north to Chiang Mai, the road south to Hua Hin and the eastern seaboard, and the crossings to Phuket and Samui — and each of those has its own constraint, which is why we do not quote them from the same template.
Having our own people in the destination city matters more than it sounds. A crew that knows which lift a building will actually release, and at what hour, is the difference between unloading on the day and unloading the day after.
What clients ask before a domestic move
What counts as a local move in Thailand?
Is a move from Bangkok to Chiang Mai still local?
Why do you ask about the building before the furniture?
Can you move us to Koh Samui or Phuket?
Do we have to be there on the day?
What will you not put on the truck?
Is packing included, or do we do it ourselves?
How is a domestic move priced?
