Self storage in Bangkok: your unit, your code, your hours

A unit you open yourself, at the hour that suits you, on a city site that does not flood. For the expatriate between two homes, the business with stock it needs to reach, the family whose apartment is smaller than its life. Asia Relocation Thailand runs the site; its crews bring the load in if you would rather not.

Self storage is the storage where you stay in charge: the unit is yours, the code is yours, the hour you turn up is your business. It suits the expatriate whose Sukhumvit condominium is a size smaller than the last one, the company that fetches a box of files on a Tuesday evening, the family waiting for a shipment.

What it asks in return is honesty about the climate. Bangkok's humidity does more damage to stored goods than any burglar: a standard unit is right for furniture and everyday cartons, not for a guitar, a laptop or a box of documents. We say which is which at the survey, and send the sensitive items to a controlled unit.

Asia Relocation Thailand has stored for expatriates and companies since 2011, on a Bangkok site chosen for ground that does not flood, and on five other sites from Chiang Mai to Samui. The crews that move households bring your load in, set it down, and hand you the code.

The perimeter

Your unit and the site around it, and what the other two storage services do

Three ways to store with us; the difference is who opens the door. Here it is you.

Carried by the service

  • A unit sized to the load, in a clean, dry, lit building, resizable as the contents change.
  • Access on your terms: your own digital code, around the clock, a loading zone at the door, trolleys on site.
  • A secured site: CCTV running at all hours, burglar alarms, fire detection, and staff or a concierge during business hours.
  • A simple agreement and a monthly invoice showing the unit, the term and the extras you chose.
  • Help when you want it: packing materials on request, our crew for the move-in, a corporate account for companies.

The unit size and the figure are confirmed in writing after the survey.

A different service

  • Goods the climate would spoil. Electronics, instruments, art, leather, paper: they belong in air-conditioned storage, where we hold the temperature and the humidity for you.
  • A load that will travel again. Goods sealed into a wooden crate that can leave the country without being repacked are reinforced crates, a different way of keeping things.
  • The move to a new address. Getting a household from one Thai home to another is our moving service in Thailand, and the crew can drop part of the load here on the way.
  • Somewhere to live meanwhile. If the furniture is in the unit because the home does not exist yet, temporary housing in Bangkok is the other half of the problem.

All of these run on the same file. Say so in the inquiry.

Ways to use it

Four loads we see in the units, and what each one needs

Same unit, same code. What differs is how often the door opens.

The condominium that is a size too small

The most common Bangkok case: a household that arrived with more than a Sukhumvit or Sathorn apartment can hold. Seasonal clothes, spare furniture, sports kit, the boxes never unpacked.

Overflow

Between two homes

The lease has ended, the next has not begun, or the shipment is still at sea. Everything goes into a unit for a period nobody can fix; the term extends and the unit shrinks once the essentials come out.

Gap

Business stock and archives

Office furniture from a downsized floor, samples, event kit, files a company must keep but never look at. Reached on the company's schedule, one invoice a month.

Company

The travelling life

Digital nomads and frequent travellers who keep a base in Thailand without an apartment, and students and young professionals with a room rather than a flat. Small units near the centre, opened at odd hours.

Light
How it works

Five steps from the first call to your code

  1. The consultation

What is going in, for roughly how long, and in which city. From that we propose a unit size and flag anything that belongs in a controlled unit instead.

  2. The unit

Chosen from the sizes available on the site, and it can change later: larger for a full household, smaller for a few cartons and a bicycle.

  3. The agreement

A short agreement in plain terms: the unit, the term, the access rules, what may not be stored, the monthly invoice. Signed, and your code is issued.

  4. The move-in

Yourself, with the trolleys and the loading zone, or our own crew collecting from your home, packing if asked, and placing the load so that what you need first is at the front.

  5. Access, any time

Your code opens the site and the unit, under CCTV, at any hour. Staff are there in business hours if you need a hand; the rest of the time the site runs itself.

Who it's for

The four people who hold a code with us

The expatriate who arrived with too much

A Bangkok apartment is often smaller than the house left behind. The unit takes what does not fit, visited when the season changes or the guests come.

The family waiting for a shipment or a lease

Between homes, the household in a temporary flat and everything else in a unit for a period nobody can fix. The term extends, the unit shrinks, the family gets on with it.

The company that needs to reach its stock

Files, samples, furniture, event kit: things a business must keep and occasionally fetch. A corporate account, and a code held by whoever needs it.

The nomad, the student, the landlord in works

People who keep a base in Thailand without a flat, young professionals with a room, owners emptying a property before the builders. Small units, short terms, odd hours.

Coverage

A site in Bangkok that does not flood, and five more

Units in Bangkok, Chiang Mai, Phuket, Pattaya, Hua Hin and Koh Samui, each run for the community that lives there.

Bangkok is where most units are taken and where the site matters most: it sits on ground that stays dry in the rainy season, not a detail in this city, and it is reachable from Sukhumvit to Sathorn without crossing the capital.

The other sites follow their cities. Chiang Mai serves retirees, students and remote workers in the north. Phuket and Samui hold the belongings of seasonal residents and the kit of hospitality businesses between seasons. Pattaya and Hua Hin serve their coastal communities and the property managers who look after their homes.

FAQ

What people ask before taking a unit in Thailand

What makes this self storage rather than a warehouse?
You hold the code and you come and go. A warehouse keeps your goods behind our staff and releases them on request; a self storage unit is yours to open at midnight with a trolley. Choose it when you expect to keep visiting the load.
What can we put in a unit in Bangkok?
Household furniture, cartons, office equipment, business stock, seasonal kit, documents. Not flammable liquids or gas, not perishable food, nothing illegal, and not the passports and jewellery you would regret losing access to. The list is in the agreement, in plain words.
How secure is the site?
Digital access codes per unit, CCTV around the clock, burglar alarms, fire detection, and staff on site during business hours. The Bangkok site also sits on ground that does not flood, which in this city is a security measure of its own.
Do I need a climate-controlled unit?
For anything humidity damages, yes: electronics, instruments, paper, artwork, leather and wood. Thailand's climate is the storage problem more than theft is. A standard unit suits furniture and everyday cartons; for the rest, our air-conditioned storage is the answer, and we say so at the survey.
Can you bring the load in for us?
Yes. Self storage means you can do it yourself, not that you must. Our own crews collect, pack if you want, and place the goods in the unit; you keep the code afterwards. Most expatriate clients use the crew for the move-in and then visit alone.
How flexible is the term?
Short or long, and it can change: a larger or smaller unit as the load changes, an extension when a lease is delayed, or the unit closed when the shipment arrives, without a penalty for having planned wrong. That flexibility is why people choose it over a warehouse.
Is there a site outside Bangkok?
Yes: Chiang Mai, Phuket, Pattaya, Hua Hin and Koh Samui, each serving the community that lives there, from retirees in the north to seasonal residents on the islands. Unit sizes and access arrangements differ by site; ask for the city you need.
How is self storage priced?
By the size of the unit, the term, and whether you want our crew for the move-in and any packing materials. The invoice is monthly and shows those lines and nothing else. The figure is given in writing after the survey, once the volume is known.
